Our Solution.
Our solution promotes healthy ageing.
It works by preventing problems before they become entrenched.
— Do you work with older people who want to improve their mental health?
— Are you concerned about older people who are isolated or who have long term health conditions?
— Do you want to protect older peoples’ mental health in the face of physical health challenges?
What does our solution involve?
Our solution is simple and personal.
It is based on a talking-therapy approach called Behavioural Activation.
— An older person speaks with a trained coach on a weekly basis.
— Contact happens over the telephone.
— During sessions a personalised action plan is built.
— The plan targets mood and activates social networks.
Triple Benefit.
Our solution has the triple benefit of improved mood, reduced loneliness, and enhanced quality of life.
90 days after starting:
— 83% of older people report reduced levels of low mood or depression.
— 78% of older people report reduced levels of loneliness.
— 76% of older people report improvements in quality of life.
How do we know it works?
Our solution was tested in the NHS and optimised in one of the largest clinical trials of loneliness ever undertaken.
“As a senior NHS clinician with 30 years’ experience, patient safety is an absolute priority that underpins our innovative telephone-first care service.”
Designed in partnership with older people.
Our solution has been 20 years in the making. It was designed by some of the world’s leading psychological scientists.
But importantly, it has been designed by working in partnership with older people who are experts by experience.
This is called co-production.
We continue to work with Age UK to support the implementation of our solution. Age UK fully understands the impact loneliness has.

“Loneliness sucks the joy out of life for too many old people. One of the reasons this study matters is that it’s easy to be fatalistic about loneliness in later life and think that nothing can be done to resolve it, but these findings show this is far from the case. That’s cause for optimism and at Age UK we are pleased to support this work.”
