Ageing Well.
An evidence-based solution for a universal challenge.
-
We all hope to thrive as we age, maintaining good physical and mental health.
This is not always easy as long term conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, heart problems) are more common in older age.
Older people who have long term conditions are more likely to experience low mood and worry, sometimes resulting in depression and anxiety. This combination of physical and mental health problems can lead to poorer quality of life and poorer health outcomes.
-
Staying socially connected is also important as we age.
Loneliness is not a universal experience of ageing, but it can disproportionately affect older adults living with long term conditions, bereavement, mobility challenges, financial difficulties, or limited social networks.
Research evidence links loneliness to a two-fold increase in depression, and a 50% increase in risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Epidemiology suggests that loneliness is as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. This makes addressing social connection a wellbeing priority as you age.
-
Prevention is key, finding ways to prevent the onset of physical and mental health problems helps us age well.
Older adults with multiple long term conditions don’t often receive support for their mental wellbeing.
Other factors also make it harder for older adults to access care.
For example, older adults are not always able to engage with digital services. -
Designed in partnership with older people our solution is effective for older people who want to optimise their mental health.
It works especially well for older people who are isolated or who have long term conditions.
It protects mental health in the face of these challenges and promotes healthy ageing.
